Bowman Residence Kitchen Remodel The Bowman's have lived in their fifty year old home for about thirty years. Their home still had the original kitchen with a very poor layout and inadequate storage. They were not sure of what they wanted and needed ideas to help them decide what to do.
We did several design options for them trying to stay within a limited budget. Initially they were not considering opening the kitchen up to the living room but liked the idea, and eventually chose that option. For the finish out they wanted a more economical style. They chose flat panel oak cabinets, but with bells and whistles such as pull out shelves and full extension drawers. For the lighting we went with recessed cans and two pendant lights for a more decorative accent above the island. We also went with a pantry cabinet with pull out shelves to help with storage.
As part of the kitchen remodel we moved the washer and dryer that were in the garage to a new utility closet at the far end of the kitchen and helped make the garage more functional in the process. We ran the vent hood exhaust through the back wall so we could keep the top of the cabinets open. We also enlarged the window and back door openings for a better view of the back yard. We took in a small corner of the garage without hurting its function to make the kitchen more open to the living room.
This project won the 2007 National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Dallas, Contractor Of The Year award for a kitchen $30,000 to $60,000. |
