Award Winning Kitchen Remodel The homeowners had a severely outdated and poorly designed kitchen that did not connect well to the living area in the front of the house or the family room in the back of the home. One of the main space issues in the kitchen was a wall that protruded into the kitchen from the converted garage that was currently under utilized. The homeowners wanted a larger, modern and updated kitchen that would make their home more efficient and functional for entertaining friends and family and that would match the existing modern style of the home. The wanted stainless steel appliances, a stove and vent in the island, extra seating for friends in the kitchen area, additional counter space, a laundry area, a pantry, a designated area for the dog to eat, and a functional traffic pattern making the kitchen the heart of the home.
To increase the square footage and make the traffic flow better we expanded the kitchen into the converted garage, creating a more open floor-plan. To create a modern look we choose sleek black oak cabinets with brushed nickel hardware, stainless steel energy efficient appliances, aluminum tile backsplash, granite countertops and a grey tile floor. We accented with blue pendant lighting and glass front cabinets. The stove top was moved to the island and a pop-up vent was added instead of a large hood to keep with the modern sleek style. The final product exhibits a modern, updated kitchen that matches the existing style of the home and provides a large, sophisticated kitchen for family and friends to gather.
This project won the 2010 NARI Dallas Contractor of the Year Award for a Residential Kitchen $40,000 TO $80,000.
